Why are regular eye tests important?

Regular eye tests are important because they help you know whether your vision can be improved or made sharper. They are also a vital health check for your eyes because early treatment is vitally important to help prevent some common eye diseases from cause that can cause permanent vision loss or blindness:

Attending regular eye tests, once every two years, can help detect these unwanted changes at an early stage, which will help you receive treatment as soon as possible. This can help preserve your eyesight, as well as preventing your vision from deteriorating. In addition to these common eye diseases, an eye test can identify other health issues, including high blood pressure and diabetes.

Why are regular contact lens checks important?

Many contact lens wearers do not realise the importance of properly fitting contact lenses. Because contact lenses are worn directly on the eyes, some inherent risks are linked with their wear compared to glasses.

During the contact lens check-up, your optometrist will:

  • Ask you how long you wear them for and if you are experiencing any problems

  • Check your vision during an eye test

  • Examine the front of your eyes using a slit lamp microscope
